President Jokowi: 2023 National Sports Day a Momentum to Make Greater Achievements

The 2023 National Sports Day commemoration is a momentum for Indonesia to succeed, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said on his personal Twitter account @Jokowi.

Through achievements in sports, said the President, athletes can make the nation proud on the world stage. Meanwhile, society will be succeed with a healthy and optimistic spirit.

“Athletes excel with achievements on the field that make the nation proud. Society has succeeded in making sports a lifestyle that forms a healthy body, an optimistic spirit, a clear mind and high self-confidence,” he said.

Echoing the same sentiment, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said that sport is an activity that teaches perseverance and fighting spirit.

“Sports teach us the meaning of hard work, dedication, and not giving up,” said the Cabinet Secretary in his statement in celebrating the 40th National Sports Day which falls on September 9, 2023.

In line with the 2023 National Sports Day theme “Winning Spirit Arena” which reflects the competitive spirit and strong determination to achieve victory, Pramono also reminded the importance of the spirit of sportsmanship in sports.

“If you win, be grateful and if you lose, you have to stand strong and be able to accept defeat because in sports, whether winning or losing it can make our souls strong,” said Pramono.

Furthermore, the Cabinet Secretary explained the importance of sports in everyday life. According to him, no matter how busy he is, he still makes time to exercise.

“In one week I work out around 4-5 times, whether it’s cycling, jogging, going to the gym, and other sports activities. I feel that by exercising I become more productive, my soul becomes healthy and strong, and at the same time it refreshes my mind personally,” he said, while inviting the public to exercise regularly.

“Let’s make sports our daily lifestyle and create a developed Indonesia, a great Indonesia, that is increasingly united,” he remarked. (MAY/UN) (EST/MMB)
