President Jokowi Appreciates French Investment in Strategic Sectors in Indonesia

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has expressed his appreciation for French investment in strategic sectors in Indonesia.

The President made the statement during a bilateral meeting with President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron at Bharat Mandapam, IECC, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, India, Saturday (09/09).

“Regarding investments in strategic sectors, I appreciate the French Ambassador to Indonesia for bringing potential French investors to Nusantara Capital City (IKN) and securing 4 Letters of Intent (LoI) to support the development of the IKN,” the President said during the meeting.

The President also expressed hopes that the agreements between the two countries can be realized in the near future.

“I hope that these agreements can be implemented soon,” President Jokowi added.

In energy transition, the Head of State also expressed hope that France would fulfill its commitment to energy transition projects, including through the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) scheme.

“Regarding energy transition, I hope France can also fulfill its commitment to energy transition projects, including through the JETP scheme,” he emphasized.

In addition to discussing investments, President Jokowi also sought support from France for Indonesia’s membership in the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

According to the President, this is a step for Indonesia to become a developed country.

“We have undertaken various economic reforms in line with the requirements for OECD membership,” he said.

President Jokowi also requested President Macron to share experiences on how OECD membership works and how to optimize the benefits of being an OECD member.

“Therefore, I requested France’s support for Indonesia’s membership, including in sharing experiences related to the working and optimization of the benefits of OECD membership,” he said.

During the meeting, President Jokowi also expressed his appreciation for France’s flexibility regarding the issue of religious symbol and sacred texts defamation in the concept of the G20 Declaration.

“This is a crucial issue for Indonesia. Such acts of abuse deeply hurt the feelings of Muslims and cannot be justified,” President remarked. (BPMI/SETPRES) (AS/EP)
