President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo held a bilateral meeting with President of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) Wesley Simina at the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC), Badung regency, Bali province, on Wednesday (10/11).

As fellow archipelagic countries, President Jokowi said that Indonesia and Micronesia have a strategic role and contribution in facing common challenges.

“As fellow archipelagic nations, we share complex challenges together in which we have a significant role and concrete contribution especially in climate change, blue economy, good marine governance, and achieving SDGs,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Simina expressed appreciation for the invitation given by President Jokowi to Micronesia to attend this year’s AIS Forum Summit.

“I personally want to convey my congratulations on the successful holding of the AIS Forum High Level Meeting,” he continued.

President Simina also said that Micronesia and Indonesia have similarities and this is the reason for Micronesia’s participation in the AIS Forum Summit.

“I knew when I received the invitation to Micronesia, without hesitation I immediately accepted it because I wanted to join you in the field of marine protection because we have something in common. So thank you for the invitation,” he said.

Apart from that, President Simina also welcomed the developments at the AIS Forum Summit by appreciating the four pillar approach of the AIS Declaration.

“The Federated States of Micronesia welcomes the developments at the AIS Forum wholeheartedly and appreciates the four-pillar approach of the AIS Declaration which focuses on maritime affairs,” he remarked. (BPMI/AIT) (EST/MUR)
