President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo welcomed the increasingly stronger relations between Indonesia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. As a matter of fact, both Indonesia and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia agreed to establish the Indonesia-Saudi Arabia High-level Coordination Committee to further strengthen the cooperation between both countries.

“It is indeed in the midst of a more fractured global situation that a friendship, such as the one that both of our countries are developing, is further necessitated,” President Jokowi stated in his introductory remarks during the bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman al-Saud, at the Al-Yamamah Palace, Riyadh, on Thursday (10/19).

On that occasion, the President also expressed Indonesia’s concern about the increasingly deteriorating situation in Palestine. The Head of State also affirmed Indonesia’s position that strongly condemns all attacks that impact on the humanitarian condition in that state.

“Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli attack on Al Ahly Hospital in Gaza which has killed hundreds of civilians,” the President stated.

Therefore, President Jokowi called on the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to jointly endeavor to cease the escalation of conflict in the area in order to prevent it from further aggravating. In addition, the Head of State encouraged the early settlement of the conflict in the Palestine and Israeli area in accordance with the agreed resolutions.

“The time has come for the world to stand up together to cease the escalation, prioritize humanitarian issues, and settle the root causes of the issue in accordance with the agreed international parameters,” he stated.
