President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected the reconstruction and preservation of Simpang Randu-Seputih Surabaya road section located at Central Lampung regency, Lampung province, Friday (10/27). The purpose of the visit was to ensure that the reconstruction of the damaged road was on track.

“Today, I want to make sure that what I saw five months ago is already underway. It’s not 100 percent complete, it’s about 60 to 70 percent. Some are 70 percent, some are 60 percent,” the President said after the visit.

The President explained that the road reconstruction in Lampung province is using a rigid pavement with a thickness of 30 centimeters. The project is a collaboration between the central government through the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) along with the Lampung provincial government.

“It’s smooth now and it’s using a 30-centimeter rigid pavement, I think it will last for a long time. We hope that with this development, the people will no longer complain about damaged roads,” he said.

In his remarks, the President also said that the central government has provided an allocation of Rp800 billion to the provincial government. The funds will be used to repair 17 damaged roads in Lampung province.

“The Governor of Lampung is really persistent in asking for [funding], so he got a lot, but I think the work on the ground is good,” he added.

The reconstruction of the provincial roads is a follow-up to Presidential Instruction (Inpres) No. 3 of 2023 on the Acceleration of Local Road Connectivity Improvement. The President expressed hope that the ongoing road repairs will be completed by December this year.

“Ask the people if they are satisfied yet. Don’t ask me. I received complaints about the roads, then I issued an Inpres. Now it’s underway, and we hope it will be completed by December,” he said. (BPMI SETPRES/AIT) (AS/RS/MMB)
