Coordinating Minister for Polhukam: The Potential of Cyber Attacks Increasingly Serious to Government Institution

Coordinating Minister for Polhukam Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno opened National of Cyber Security Symposium, at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/6)

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security, Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno argued, attacks directed towards government institutions through cyberspace (cyber) at this point, it appears increasingly serious, which could potentially interfere with the government of giving optimum public services.

Therefore, the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security requested that the National of Cyber Security Symposium held at Hotel Borobudur, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/6) afternoon, could provide answers regarding the establishment of a special agency that is capable of addressing cyber security issues in facing of those attacks, it is necessary or not.

“The event was attended by 400 participants and 30 resource persons who will be present at this event. The event is interactive, and on one of the parallel sessions prepared a simulation, entitled “Indonesia under Attack”, to demonstrate directly the readiness, which is already owned by Indonesia in facing an attack that is massive,” Tejo said.

Coordinating Minister emphasized that the results of the National Cyber security Symposium that will be prepared as an input and a reference for the government if it is deemed necessary to take further strategic steps.

Earlier in the press conference with the Minister of Communications and Informatics (Menkominfo) Rudiantara, in Jakarta, Friday (29/6), Coordinating Minister for Polhukam Tedjo Edhy Purdijatno argued, that his side currently only has a cyber security desk that is not integrated with each agency that has a cyber security agencies.

The government, said Coordinating Minister for Polhukam, realizing the importance of the establishment of “National Cyber Agency (BCN)” as this time information and communication technology has penetrated into various sectors in the community, so security in cyberspace to be a priority in national security.

“BCN is needed to coordinate security in cyberspace in warding off attacks that endanger the national interest,” Tejo said.

According to Coordinating Minister for Polhukam, war in the modern era is now no longer just a visible war, but it is cyber warfare. “Indonesia indeed late to form the National Cyber Security Agency, but it’s better late than not at all,” Tejo said.

Symposium was attended, among others, Coordinating Minister for Economy Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo, Minister of Defense Ryarmirzad Ryacudu, Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara, and National Police Chief Gen. Badrodin Haiti. (Humas Setkab/ES)
