Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Groundbreaking Ceremony of IKN Airport, at North Penajam Paser Regency, East Kalimantan Province, November 1, 2023

Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Good morning, may prosperity be upon us all.

Distinguished Ministers, Head of the IKN Authority, Governor of East Kalimantan, Chairperson of the DPR RI’s (House of Representatives) Commission V, Regent of North Penajam Paser, all customary and community figures present.

Distinguished ladies and gentlemen.

Today, we are about to commence the groundbreaking for the construction of the Nusantara Capital Airport, which is targeted to be fully operational in December 2024 but can be used as early as June 2024. The presence of this airport is crucial considering the increasing activities in IKN, the growing mobility of people and goods to and from IKN. The IKN Airport is a specialized airport designed to support government activities in IKN and enhance connectivity in the Nusantara Capital.

The IKN Airport covers an area of 347 hectares with a runway of 3,000×45 meters capable of serving wide-bodied aircraft, which is essential. It is also equipped with a terminal spanning 7,350 square meters, ensuring passengers are served comfortably and efficiently. This airport will open up the IKN area, improve connectivity, and make it easily accessible from anywhere. I am confident that the IKN Airport will enhance the competitiveness of IKN, stimulate economic growth, promote regional development, and accelerate the ongoing development of IKN.

That concludes my remarks on this auspicious occasion. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I officially declare the groundbreaking of the Nusantara Capital Airport this morning.
