President Jokowi: Solar Power Plant to Support Green Energy Industry
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo (Jokowi) inaugurated the Cirata floating solar power plant (PLTS) with a capacity of 192 megawatt peak (MWp) in Purwakarta regency, West Java province, Thursday (11/09).
The President said that the existence of this power plant will be used to support the green energy industry.
“Indeed, the demand for green energy for industry is the biggest because everyone wants to get premium products from green energy,” said President Jokowi after inaugurating the PLTS.
He emphasized that the Government is committed to continuing develop new renewable energy in the country, including hydroelectric power, geothermal and wind power.
“We hope that more and more new renewable energy will be built in our country, be it solar power, hydropower, geothermal, as well as wind power. I think if we continue to consistently carry it out like this it will be very good,” he said.
The President also explained that many investors are interested in investing in the new renewable energy-based sector in Indonesia. However, he wants the development to be carried out in stages.
“There are a lot of [foreign investors] queuing, but we only want one at a time. The Government wants to complete one by one and not all of them get accepted. After this, we probably want to build a hydro power plant, but it’s not final yet,” he said.
Regarding the Cirata floating PLTS, the President said that the capacity of this power plant will continue to be increased in collaboration with the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
“Earlier I spoke with Minister Thani from the UAE that the capacity of this power plant will be increased again, perhaps to approximately 500 megawatts,” he remarked. (TGH/UN) (EST/MMB)
