President Jokowi to Convey OIC Resolution to President Biden

President Jokowi delivers a statement in Washington DC, USA, Sunday (11/12).

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Monday (11/13) is slated to meet the President of the United States Joe Biden.

During the meeting, President Jokowi will convey the resolution from the Extraordinary Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) regarding the current situation in Palestine.

“Thank God, the OIC Summit has produced a resolution with a very strong message for the world. I will convey the message to President Biden tomorrow. The resolution comes from 57 countries, or about a third of the number of countries in the world,” the President said in Washington DC, USA, Sunday (11/12).

The President said that he will also convey a message from Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.

During the OIC Extraordinary Summit in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, President Jokowi invited OIC member countries to unite and be at the forefront in fighting for justice for the Palestinian people.

“A ceasefire must be implemented immediately, humanitarian aid must be accelerated and increased, peace negotiation must begin immediately, public facilities and humanitarian activities must not be the target of attacks, and Israel must be held accountable for the atrocities it has committed,” the President said.

Regarding the current situation at the Indonesian Hospital in Palestine, President Jokowi emphasized the importance of respecting international humanitarian law. This was conveyed by the President at the OIC Summit and bilateral meetings with a number of OIC country leaders,

“Let me reiterate that from the beginning of the attack, the government has taken measures and will continue to take measures to protect Indonesian citizens and public facilities, including the Indonesian Hospital,” the President stated.

Closing his statement, President Jokowi emphasized his support for Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs to play an active role to achieve peace in Palestine. (DND/UN) (RI/LW)
