Indonesia, Peru to Step Up Economic Cooperation
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (11/16) conveyed Indonesia’s commitment to supporting Peru’s chairmanship of APEC 2024.
“It is a pleasure to meet for the first time and congratulations on Peru’s chairmanship of APEC 2024, as well as Peru’s Pro Tempore Presidency in the Pacific Alliance. Indonesia is ready to support Peru’s chairmanship of APEC next year,” President Jokowi said during the bilateral meeting with Peruvian President Dina Boluarte at Moscone Center, San Francisco, USA.
President Jokowi also underscored that the value of trade between the two countries in the last five years has shown good progress and invited the Peruvian President to complete the formation of a free trade agreement immediately.
“I look forward to completing the first negotiations by the end of next year so we can announce it on the sidelines of the 2024 APEC High-Level Meeting in Peru,” the President said.
The Head of State also encouraged the development of dialogue and cooperation between mineral producing countries.
“This is necessary to guarantee availability and added value, boost economic progress, and ensure the sustainability of the global supply chain,” he added.
On that occasion, the President also asked President Dina Boluarte’s support in the continuation of the Indonesia-Latin America and Caribbean Business Forum (INA-LAC) which will be held next year.
“I request Your Excellency’s support for the INA-LAC Business Forum 2024 so it can strengthen economic partnership between Indonesia and Latin America and the Caribbean,” President Jokowi remarked. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (GWH/EP)
