President Jokowi Inaugurates New Army Chief

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Wednesday (11/29) at the State Palace, Jakarta, inaugurated Lieutenant General Maruli Simanjuntak as Army Chief of Staff (KSAD).

The appointment of Maruli Simanjuntak was based on Decree of the President of the Republic of Indonesia (Keppres) Number 103/TNI/of 2023 on the Dismissal and Appointment of the Army Chief of Staff. The Presidential Decree was issued by President Joko Widodo in Jakarta on November 29, 2023, and was recited by the President’s Military Secretary Rear Admiral TNI Hersan during the ceremony.

On that occasion, President Jokowi bestowed the rank of KSAD, before Maruli took oath of office as Army Chief of Staff.

Afterward, President Jokowi and Maruli Simanjuntak signed the minutes of the meeting, witnessed by the TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and the National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo.

For the record, Maruli Simanjuntak succeeded General Agus Subiyanto who has been appointed as the TNI Commander. With this inauguration, Maruli received a promotion one level higher to General. The promotion was based on the Presidential Decree Number 104/TNI of 2023 on Promotion of High-ranking TNI Officers. (DND/UN) (RI/MMB)
