President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo expressed appreciation for Indonesia’s success in hosting the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

The President said that Indonesia received praise from FIFA for successfully holding this large-scale international sporting event.

“On December 2, 2023, the World Cup for U-17 had ended. It was successful and very well organized. This was appreciated by FIFA as one of the best events,” said the President in his statement to media crew on Monday (12/4) at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base, Jakarta.

He said that this achievement was a pride for all Indonesian people. Not only that, the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup will also have a number of positive impacts on Indonesia’s image in the eyes of the world.

“It also stimulates economic and tourism growth for our country,” he added.

Furthermore, President Jokowi asked the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) together with Ministry of Youth and Sports to explore the possibility of hosting the 2025 U-20 and 2025-2029 U-17 World Cups in a joint proposal with Singapore.

“I am sure that Indonesia and Singapore will be good hosts for both tournaments,” he said. (KS/UN) (EST/MMB)
