President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (12/19) inaugurated Otista Bridge in Bogor, West Java province. The bridge was constructed to reduce traffic congestion due to road narrowing.

“Otista Bridge has been causing traffic congestion in Bogor, because the road is narrowing on this bridge,” the President said after the inauguration.

He added that the bridge that was renovated using a budget of Rp50 billion has better construction now.

According to him, the construction preserves special features of the bridge that was built in 1920 in order to preserve the cultural heritage.

“It is preserved; the shape of a curved arch is preserved,” he said.

In the meantime, Mayor of Bogor Bima Arya Sugiarto said that the widening of Otista Bridge aimed at reducing traffic congestion in that city.

“After conducting a study in 2015, we decided to adopt one-way policy around the [Presidential] Palace areas to reduce congestion. However, the policy caused a bottleneck in this spot. Therefore, the community asked government at city level to widen the bridge,” Bima explained.

He expressed hope that the bridge can smooth traffic flow and contribute to the increase in local economy.  (FID/TGH/UN) (RAS/MMB)
