President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo together with the leaders of ASEAN countries attended a tea party held by Japanese Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako at the Imperial Palace, Tokyo, Japan, on Monday (12/18). Before the tea party began, Emperor Naruhito gave his speech first.

In his speech, he expressed his congratulations on the successful holding of the ASEAN-Japan 50th Anniversary Summit and further expressed hope that the summit will provide an opportunity to advance ASEAN-Japan friendly relations and cooperation.

“On this auspicious occasion, I wish all of you success and good health as well as the happiness and prosperity for our people in ASEAN countries,” said Emperor Naruhito.

Emperor Naruhito, Empress Masako, along with other country leaders then held a tea party together. Before leaving the Imperial Palace, President Jokowi spoke and delivered a message to Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, inviting them to visit Indonesia again, this time for a longer time than before.

“I am waiting for His Majesty and the Empress to visit Indonesia for a longer time. One month or two months,” said President Jokowi, greeted by laughter from Emperor Naruhito and the Empress. (Presidential Secretariat’s Bureau of Press, Media, and Information/AIT) (TM/LW)
