President Jokowi: Construction of Nusantara Hotel at New Capital to Complete in August 2024

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Wednesday (12/20) conducted a working visit to Indonesia’s new capital of Nusantara in North Penajam Paser regency, East Kalimantan province.

President Jokowi was set to lead the groundbreaking ceremony and inspect the progress of infrastructure development at the city.

The Head of State is also scheduled to carry out tree planting in a number of locations, including at the National Axis area and the Forest and Land Rehabilitation Center at the Central Government Area.

During the inspection of the construction site of the Nusantara Hotel, the President said that the progress had reached 34 percent and expressed optimism it could be completed and ready to use in August 2024.

“If we look at the progress today, it will be completed before August (2024),” he said, adding that the progress of other infrastructure projects is similar to that of the hotel.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also said that the current construction of a number of projects in Nusantara capital shows the interest of investors that keeps increasing, adding that the progress of the construction of each infrastructure must continue to be inspected every month.

“This is what I said earlier, after one (infrastructure) starts the groundbreaking, the others will follow suit. There are hotels, malls, sports centers, hospitals. Do remember that the progress must be checked every month,” he said, adding that the investors are not only from Java island but also from other parts of the country including the neighboring Balikpapan city.

Regarding foreign investors, President Jokowi explained that as long as domestic investors’ interest is still high, the Government will prioritize domestic investors.
