President Jokowi Receives Traditional Honorary Title in Talaud Islands

Chairperson of Talaud Customary Arvan Bawangun presents Talaud traditional title to President Jokowi in Talaud Islands regency, North Sulawesi province, Thursday (12/28)

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Thursday (12/28) received Talaud traditional honorary title “Marambe Ambaralla Palunglaa Porodisa” from Chairperson of Talaud Customary Council Arvan Bawangun.

The President and his entourage arrived at Melonguane Airport in Talaud Islands regency, North Sulawesi province at around 12.00 Central Indonesia Time.

Upon arrival at the airport, they were welcomed by Regent of Talaud Islands Elly Engelbert Lasut.

“The bestowal of this title proves that President Jokowi is a great leader, capable of giving guidance and protection to the people of Talaud,” Arvan said in his statement.

Arvan added that the granting of the title was based on President Jokowi’s policies deemed to have significantly contributed to the development in the regency.

“Mr. President has assisted us by providing government funding to the regional government so that the regional government and the people of Talaud Islands regency can benefit from the development funded by the Government,” he added.

For the record, the ceremonial bestowal of the title began with “manoroho,” a symbolic prayer thanking God for ensuring the President’s safety.

President Jokowi was seen receiving and wearing a Talaud traditional headwear “parudante pangasso” symbolizing “dignity and honor” and a Talaud traditional shawl “sarumbaing” symbolizing “guidance and embrace.” (AP/EP) (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat)
