Newly-inaugurated Constitutional Court Justice Arsul Sani Thursday (01/18) expressed commitment to maintaining independence and impartiality in carrying out his duties.

“Nevertheless, I must prove my commitment in the process of adjudicating cases within the jurisdiction of the Constitutional Court,” Arsul told the journalist.

In addition, Arsul also stated the importance of continuing to maintain and increase public trust as the main capital of judicial institutions. “We have to strengthen such capital continuously,” he said.

According to Arsul, he has submitted resignation from his position as a member of the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR) and the House of Representative (MPR) as well as from his membership in the political party United Development Party (PPP) to maintain his independence.

“I also have a background as an advocate (but since I serve as a Constitutional Court Justice) I am not allowed to practice, so I have resigned from my position as Deputy Chair of the National Advisory Board of Indonesian Advocates Association (PERADI),” Arsul remarked. (FID/UN) (GWH/MUR)
