President Jokowi Congratulates National Team for Advancing to Asian Cup Knockout Stage

President Jokowi Friday (01/26) congratulated the Indonesian national team for their first historical advancement to knockout stage of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup.

“I’d like to express my congratulations for our national team,” President Jokowi said at the Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java.

The Garuda team is set to face Australia, who qualified as first place in group B, in the best 16 round. “I hope we can secure points in the first match of the last 16 round against Australia,” he added.

The Head of State also expressed belief that Indonesia is capable to reap more achievements in the future.

“Of course, it can be done through serious efforts and hard work,” the President remarked.

For the record, the Indonesian national team qualified for the last 16 of the 2023 Asian Cup as one of the four best third-place teams after securing 3 points from three matches. The Red and White Team was confirmed to qualify after Oman drew 1-1 against Kyrgyzstan at the Abdullah Bin Khalifa Stadium, Thursday (01/25). (FID/BPMI SETPRES/UN) (GWH/MUR)
