Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Joint Press Statement with President of the Republic of Tanzania, Bogor Presidential Palace, West Java Province, January 25, 2024
Your Excellency President Samia Suluhu Hassan and delegates,
The friendship between Indonesia and Tanzania has been further strengthened today with President Samia’s visit to Indonesia. We have agreed to continue providing concrete cooperation in various fields.
Indonesia will conduct the 2nd Indonesia-Africa Forum this year to strengthen South-South Cooperation, in which Tanzania is one of the main partners.
We discussed several matters in the meeting.
First, regarding trade. A Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) will be established to increase trade, in which the negotiations will be launched this year.
Second, in the field of investment, the commitment to strengthening cooperation in the oil and gas sector will be further strengthened, and state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina had expanded cooperation in Mnazi Bay and conducted training for employees of the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC). In the future, Indonesia hopes that negotiations between Medco Energi for LNG cooperation and SSA (Sinka Sinye Agrotama) investment plans in the fertilizer sector can be realized soon. I have also conveyed the importance of establishing a bilateral investment treaty to protect investment between the two countries.
Third, related to the development cooperation. Indonesia is committed to increasing cooperation in revitalizing the Farmer’s Agriculture and Rural Training Center (FARTC) in Morogoro, training human resources in the sectors of oil and gas and agriculture, as well as implementing the National Single System.
Fourth, in the field of health, Indonesian pharmaceutical companies are committed to fulfilling the medical needs in Tanzania. I have conveyed the importance of intensive exploration between the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration (BPOM) and the Tanzania Medicines and Medical Devices Authority to accelerate the registration of pharmaceutical products.
Lastly, regarding the situation in Gaza, our two countries have the same stance and will continue to coordinate to support the cause of the Palestinian people.
That concludes my statement. Let me invite Your Excellency President Samia to deliver your statement.
I thank you.
