Banking infrastructure in the Nusantara Capital (IKN) should become an important part of Indonesia’s economic transformation, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“The economic transformation in the Nusantara capital should speed up transformation from the old economic pattern to the new one, since the global economic landscape is currently changing, the global political landscape is also changing, and so are geopolitics. The Nusantara capital must become part of Indonesia’s economic transformation,” the President said at the groundbreaking of BNI 46 Bank office construction in the IKN area, North Penajam Paser, East Kalimantan, Thursday (02/29).

The President also applauded BNI’s initiative in developing digital banking in the IKN financial and banking cluster area.

In the meantime, President Jokowi said that the construction of toll roads and new airports will make the IKN more accessible and will cut travel time from various cities, such as Jakarta and Balikpapan, to the IKN.

“We hope that toll road facilities and airport facilities will boost traffic in the airport and traffic to the IKN. We hope that the IKN will become a vibrant city for government affairs, supported by complete facilities. We also hope that musical concerts can be held in the IKN,” the President said.

President Jokowi further said that the Government will take measures to make the IKN an ecotourism center and a green city with a smart city concept.

“It will become a green city and a forest city. We will also have many bank offices here with digital banking ecosystems, aligned with the smart city concept,” the President remarked.
