Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at the Inauguration of Samarinda Seberang Terminal in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan Province, February 28, 2024
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,
Good afternoon,
May prosperity be upon us all,
Shalom,
Distinguished Chairperson of the Presidential Advisory Board,
Leaders and Members of House of Representatives,
Attending Ministers, Governor of East Kalimantan province, Mayor Samarinda city, Ladies and Gentlemen, Prominent Figures,
Ladies and Gentlemen,
Distinguished and beloved people of East Kalimantan province, especially Samarinda city.
We can see that cities everywhere nowadays, including Samarinda, Balikpapan, and Banjarmasin, are experiencing traffic jam. Therefore, we must promote the use of mass transportation so we can reduce the use of private vehicles.
In Jakarta, traffic jam has happened for years. We already have commuter line (KRL), light rail transit (LRT), mass rapid transit (MRT), and Transjakarta, but traffic jam happens in all areas. Therefore, other cities besides Jakarta should prepare public transportation, mass transportation.
Also, I am happy today to see the development of Samarinda Seberang Terminal in Samarinda city. The mayor said to me, “Previously, this was a poor place, Sir.” Indeed, mostly all terminals are filthy, dirty, unorganized, and have thugs. It is common everywhere.
Therefore, we must change the image now. I see and I am happy that the terminal is clean, neat, organized, and we hope that that it will encourage the people to start using public transportation. From here, we can go to Balikpapan city, Banjarmasin city. I think it will be excellent if people use public transportation instead of private transportation. It is, once again, aimed to reduce traffic jam in all our cities.
That concludes my remarks.
And, by saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, today, I hereby inaugurate Samarinda Seberang Terminal in Samarinda city, East Kalimantan province.
