Coordinating Minister Tells Press to Prevent Spread of Hoaxes
Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Hadi Tjahjanto Tuesday (03/19) called on the press to prevent the spread of hoaxes to keep the situation of the country conducive.
“I am calling on the press to deliver positive news and write positively. I would also like invite journalists to prevent hoaxes so the condition of our country can stay conducive,” the Minister said after presiding over a coordinating meeting on informatics and communication security after the 2024 General Elections at the Coordinating Ministry’s office, Jakarta.
The Minister went on to say that during the meeting, they discussed the latest political condition and security particularly in the public space after the general elections. According to him, his Ministry has already taken preventive measures to ensure the information circulating in the mass media and on social media does not disturb the current conditions and conduciveness.
Hadi also called on the public to maintain political condition and security in the country particularly after the elections.
Minister of Communication and Informatics Budi Arie Setiadi reported that his Ministry took down a total of 1,971 hoaxes related to the 2024 elections from the period of 17 June 2023 to 18 March 2024.
“We found 3,235 hoaxes and have taken down 1,970 of them. Meanwhile, we labelled ‘hoax’ to the rest of misleading contents,” he said. (UN) (RAS/EP)
