Remarks of President of the Republic of Indonesia at Inauguration Ceremony of Gumbasa Dam and Irrigation Network, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province, March 27, 2024

Good Afternoon,
May prosperity be upon us all.

Ladies and gentlemen,
We must put our best foot forward to achieve food security and food sovereignty. We have revamped irrigation infrastructure, including dams and irrigation networks across the country, to ensure the availability of water for rice fields and for farmers to improve our agricultural productivity.

We also need to continue to develop irrigation networks to improve the agricultural sector. The Gumbasa irrigation area in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province is part of the program. The revamp of irrigation area in Gumbasa began in 2016. After a long process, and after a natural disaster in 2018, thank God, the project was finally completed this year, in 2024.

The revamp of the irrigation network in Gumbasa was carried out with a budget allocation of Rp 1.25 trillion. The budget was used for the reconstruction of one dam, 35 kilometers of primary canal, 52 kilometers of secondary canal, 119 kilometers of tertiary canal, and 82 waste canals. The project will serve the area of 8,180 hectares of rice fields and improve the agricultural index from the 149 percent to 300 percent.

I hope that the reconstruction project of the Gumbasa irrigation area will improve our agricultural productivity, support food security, and improve the welfare of farmers.

That concludes my remarks. By saying bismillahirrahmanirrahim, I hereby inaugurate the newly revamped Gumbasa irrigation network in Sigi regency, Central Sulawesi province.
