A Year, Indonesian Population Growth Equals to Singapore Population

Head of the Population and Family Planning (BKKBN) Dr Surya Chandra Surapaty, MPH, Ph.D., Said that Indonesia’s population growth rate currently at 1.49 percent, is too high. Therefore, the government through the BKKBN conveyed that Indonesia’s population growth rate can be reduced to 1.1 percent.

“With a growth rate of 1.49 per cent of the Indonesian population will increase by 4.5 million people. It’s the same with a population of Singapore,” said Surya Chandra told reporters after received by the President of Joko Widodo (Jokowi), in the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (29/9) afternoon.

According to Surya, the concern is that Indonesia’s population becomes not qualified, because most of them inhabit in slum areas, in poor areas.

According to the Head of BKKBN, later in each district will be established the family planning village, in which there is also a Healthy House. “Healthy House is a place where families, the mothers developed the toddler family building program, teenagers’ family building, and elderly family building,” he said.

Surya hopes, the family will be more prosperous after following the family planning program, and will be more prosperous by following the family  building programs that TRIBINA’s.

Revitalization

Regarding his presence in the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Head of BKKBN argued, reported the program to revitalize the family planning program.

“We feel that family planning program, the population program is decline, so it should be organized the movements to promote again the Population Program, Family Planning and Family Development (KKBPK),” Surya said.

With the publication of Law No.23 of 2014 on Local Government, Surya said, then KKBPK program (Population, Family Planning and Family Development) become the program that have to be implemented jointly by the central government, provincial and district / city.

Within the central BKKBN, Surya said, manages 10-sub authority, among other family planning field officers, family planning Counselor that will be managed again by the center. “They are State Civil Apparatus (ASN) Center recruited by the center, then trained and given sertification of PLKB (Family Planning Field Officers) and Counselor family planning,” Surya said.

Surya Chandra also added, BKKBN would also manage contraceptive drugs and devices and Families Information System, which will form the basis of accurate population data by name and address. This database can be used as a basis for future development planning that directly touches the people.  (DND/UN/ES)
