President Jokowi: It Needs Concrete Steps in Child Abuse Management

President Joko Widodo led a limited meeting on Child Abuse Management, at the Presidential Office, on Tuesday (20/10)

President Joko Widodo admitted that there are a lot of works to do by the Government to escort our children to enter their future. Up to this moment, there are a number of child abuse cases including child trafficking, discrimination, illicit drugs, sexual abuse and other child abuses.

Thus, President Joko Widodo instructed that the concrete steps to cope with the problem of child abuse are needed. “The steps have to be real, concrete and visible,” President Joko Widodo said in his remarks on a limited meeting on prevention and management of child abuse problem, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Tuesday (20/10).

However, the President reminded all that the Government obviously can not take action on their own, because all children’s problems are influenced by their families and also related with akhlak (the practice of virtue, morality, and good manners), morality, norms and manners that are imprinted to the children in their early years.

“The environment where our child socialized, for example school environment, takes effect to the development of the child,” President Joko Widodo said while mentioning that the media, both mass media and social media, is now very influential to our children.

Therefore, President Joko Widodo hopes all parties could coordinate. The President asked to conduct a massive campaign to the people regarding the fulfilment of children’s rights. Thus, the impact could directly be seen in the society.

The limited meeting were attended by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Puan Maharani, Minister of Culture and Elementary and Secondary Education Anies Baswedan, Minister of Youth and Sports Imam Nahrawi, Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Yohana Yembise, Minister of Health Nila F. Moeloek, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H. Laoly, Minister of Religious Affairs Lukman Hakim Saifuddin, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki, Attorney General Prasetyo, and National Police chief Gen.Badrodin Haiti.
