President Joko Widodo Wants Mass Transportation to be Developed in Other Cities

President Joko Widodo led a Limited Meeting at the Presidential Office, Jakarta (15/1)

President Joko Widodo, at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Friday (15/1) afternoon led a Limited Meeting discussing Jakarta-Bandung fast train. Starting his introductory remarks, the President encouraged to develop mass transportation, not only in Jakarta and Bandung, but also in other big cities in Indonesia.

 “I want to always encourage to develop mass transportation, not only in Jakarta and Bandung, but also in other Indonesia’s big cities,” the President said.

At the moment, according to the President, the construction of Light Rail Transit in Palembang has just started. The construction may be continued in other cities, such as Bandung, Surabaya, etc.

Therefore, on that occasion, the President wanted to disccuss and get information regarding the obstacles on licensing process.

“I want to get the reports on the track of Jakarta-Bandung fast train as well as the licensing process,” the President added.

Other issues that also become the focus of the President are about Environmental Impact Analysis (Amdal) and the determinationof a State-Owned Enterprise that oversees train affairs.

In other words, the President wants to ensure every thing is ready both the consortium or the capital. “I want to ensure every thing is ready. The consortium of this project must be ready to prepare the capital and other aspects,” the President said.

Meanwhile, the Government also affirmed that the regions passed by the train must also be ready. This is consistent with the result of the previous meeting which is when the Governor of West Java and Mayor of Bandung conveyed their intention to connect the fast train with Bandung Raya LRT.

“I want to know the details as well as the design of Jakarta’s LRT. I also want to know the preparation,”  the President said concluding his introductory remarks.

This Limited Meeting was attended by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Luhut B. Pandjaitan, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Resources Rizal Ramli, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises Rini Soemarno, Minister of Transportation Ignasius Jonan, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Minister of National Development Planning/Head of Development Planning Agency Sofyan Djalil, Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs A.
