President Jokowi to Inaugurate Elected Governors/Deputy Governors Today

President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (12/2) afternoon, at the State Palace, Jakarta, is scheduled to inaugurate 7 (seven) pairs of the elected governor and deputy governor. The inauguration at the State Palace by President Jokowi referred to the Law Number 8 of 2015 on Regional Elections (Pilkada) which is stated on Article 163.

The seven pairs of the governor and deputy governor were elected in the simultaneous regional head elections on 9 December 2015 and already have acquired permanent legal force. The governors and deputy governors who will be inaugurated by the President are; Governor and Deputy Governor of South Kalimantan, Sahbirin Noor and Rudi Resnawan; Governor and Deputy Governor of Jambi, Zumi Zola and Fachrori Umar; Governor and Deputy Governor of West Sumatra, Irwan Prayitno and Nasrul Abit; Governor and Deputy Governor of North Sulawesi, Olly Dondokambey and Steven Octavianus; Governor and Deputy Governor of Riau Islands, Muhammad Sani and Nurdin Basirun; Governor and Deputy Governor of North Kalimantan, Irianto Lambrie and Udin Hianggio; and Governor and Deputy Governor of Bengkulu, Ridwan Mukti and Rohidin Mersyah. Referring to the Law Number 8 of 2015 on Regional Elections (Pilkada) which is stated on Article 163, the inauguration of the governors is held in the capital city.

Minister of Home Affairs Tjahjo Kumolo reminded that in the inauguration, the elected regional heads shall not be accompanied by many people to attend the ceremony. “Only for governors, deputy governors and their spouses, as well as regional secretaries (Sekda) and the Speakers of Regional House of Representatives (DPRD),” the Minister said in Jakarta, on Thursday (11/2).

After the inauguration of governors and deputy governors, according to Tjahjo Kumolo, the upcoming inauguration is for the regents and mayors in the capital of each province. The inauguration will be led directly by governor and deputy governor on Wednesday (17/2).

“Afterwards, these regional heads will be invited to the State Palace to receive directions from the President and related ministries,” Tjahjo explained. (Puspen Kemendagri/ES) (RAS/MMB/YM/Naster)
