President Jokowi Congratulates Myanmar’s First Civilian President, Htin Kyaw

On behalf of Indonesian Government, President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) congratulated President Htin Kyaw who has been elected as the new President of Myanmar.

“As President Htin Kyaw has been elected, we hope that the cooperation between Indonesia and Myanmar can be improved, particularly in the sectors of economy, trade, and democratisation,” President Jokowi said it at the Presidential Office, Jakarta, on Wednesday afternoon (16/3).

Htin Kyaw, a prominent figure of National League for Democracy (NLD) has been elected as the President of Myanmar after 360 parliament members voted for him on last Tuesday (15/3).

After surpassing the other two candidates, Henry Van Thio and Myin Swe, Htin will be recorded as Myanmar’s first civilian President. (UN/ES) (AW/YM/Naster)
