President Jokowi Inaugurates 2 Infrastructure Projects in East Java

President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo, accompanied by First Lady Ibu Iriana JokoWidodo, on Saturday (19/3) morning visited East Java Province to inaugurate two infrastructure projects, namely the Surabaya-Mojokerto Toll Road Section IV project in Mojokerto and the Nipah Dam project in Sampang Regency, Madura.

Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road spans 18.47 kilometers and there is still 16.01 kilometers section of the road that is still being built. The Surabaya-Mojokerto toll road is expected to be in full operation in 2017.

In the meantime, Nipah Dam is one of 65 dams that the Government will build during the period of 2015-2019.

It is expected that Nipah Dam can irrigate a total of 1.150 hectares of paddy fields, which consist of  925 hectares of new paddy fields that are developed from rain-fed fields and the remaining 225 hectares of paddy fields that are already available.

The Dam will also be used to conserve water resources and to cultivate fish, as well as a tourist destination.

President Jokowi on many occasions always says that infrastructure development is crucial to win the competition of global economy. Therefore, he said that the Government continues to improve infrastructure facilities in the country.

President Jokowi also believes that infrastructures are the key to reduce transportation and logistics costs; hence prices of products distributed to all regions in Indonesia will be lowered. The President also said that development must be ‘Indonesia-centrist’ (done in all regions in Indonesia).

“Development programs must begin from outside Java and move to Java. It’s no longer centered in Java but centered in Indonesia. Places that are not connected yet must be connected. That’s what I call connectivity,” the President said when inaugurating Rembele Airport in Bener Meriah Regency, Aceh, on 2 March 2016.  (DNS/TKP)(EP/YM/Naster)
