Zulkifli Hasan Elected as Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives 2014-2019
After a lengthy trial since Tuesday (7/10) morning, the former Minister of Forestry, Zulkifli Hasan (51), from the National Mandate Party (PAN) was elected as Chairman of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR-RI) for a term of 2014 – 2019, at the plenary meeting of the Assembly of Representatives led by the temporary chairman, Maimanah Umar and Ade Rizki Pratama, on Wednesday (8/10) at 4:20 pm.
In the election conducted by the voting system, Zulkifli Hasan joined in package B are carried by parties who are members of the Coalition of the Red-and-White (KMP), which consists of the Golkar Party, Gerindra Party, Democratic Party, PAN, and Prosperous Justice Party (PKS).
In voting, Package B consisting of Zulkifli Hasan (PAN), Mahyudin (Golkar), EE. Mangindaan (Democrat), Hidayat Nur Wahid (PKS), and Osman Sapta Odang (DPD), obtain the support of 347 votes, ahead of the Package A with 220 votes. Whereas one abstention.
package A which carried by Indonesian Great Coalition (KIH) supported by Indonesia Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P), the National Awakening Party (PKB), Nasdem Party, Hanura Party, and the United Development Party (PPP), consists of Osman Sapta Odang (DPD), One Basarah (PDIP), Imam Nahrawi (PKB), Patrice Rio Capella (Nasdem), and Hasrul Anwar (PPP).
At around 5:25 pm, the Chairman of the Supreme Court (MA), M. Hatta Ali, took the oath, Zulkifli Hasan as Chairman of the Assembly of Representatives from 2014 to 2019 period, accompanied by Vice Chairman Mahyudin, EE. Mangindaan, Hidayat Nur Wahid, and Osman Sapta Odang.
In his speech after being sworn, the Chairman of MPR-RI, Zulkifli Hasan said, with the election of the new leadership of the MPR-RI, no more A Package or B Package, but that there is Indonesian Package, NKRI (Unitary Republic of Indonesia) Package. He said that the nearest MPR agenda is inaugurate President Elect, the results of the presidential election of 2014, and fills completeness formation in the MPR-RI. (ES)
