President Joko Widodo accompanied by Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono inspects Teritip Dam in Balikpapan, on Thursday (24/3) afternoon

President Joko Widodo closed his series of working visit in Balikpapan by inspecting Teritip Dam construction project on Thursday (24/3). The President asked all related parties to finish this project before rainy season comes.

“The Mayor was complaining to me that Balikpapan suffers from water crisis. On the otherhand, I want the construction of Teritip Dam to be speeded up so that it will be finished before next year’s rainy season,” the President said while mentioning that he has given instructions to Minister of Public Works and Public Housing as well as the Director Generals.

According to the President, the fund to build this Dam comes from Central Government’s State Budget (APBN Pusat) and Regional State Budget (APBD). The APBD allocates Rp 86 billion while APBN allocates Rp 370 billion.

“It’s an important cooperation. It should be like this so that the project can finish rapidly. The process of land acquisition by city government was also quick so that the work can be carried out rapidly,” the President said.

The President hopes next year, Teritip Dam could be a water reservoir for people in Balikpapan and its surrounding areas. It can also be used to prevent flood and as a tourist destination. (DNA/ES)(MMB/YM/Naster)
