President Jokowi: Cooperation on Creative Industries with South Korea Should Soon be Realized

President Jokowi visits MBC and CJ Entertainment at Digital Media City, Seoul, South Korea (17/5)

In an effort to study Republic of Korea’s creative industries and to promote cooperation on creative industries with South Korea, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Tuesday (17/5) visited Munhwa Broadcasting Corporation (MBC) and CJ Creative Center at the Digital Media City – a high-tech media and entertainment complex – in Mapo-gu, Seoul, South Korea.

During the visit to the DMC, President Jokowi watched videos about creative industries, put on Korean traditional clothes, watched a virtual concert and a hologram theater, as well as watched Korean traditional music performances.

On that occasion, President Jokowi said that Indonesia is serious in cooperating with South Korea to develop creative economy and creative industries.

“We come here in the hope that we can immediately realize cooperation on creative industries with South Korea. We have potentials in our traditions and cultures that we have to develop. We’ve seen potentials in creative industries,” the President said.

President Jokowi said that the cooperation would be done, be it through private-to-private cooperation, cooperation between state-owned enterprises, or government-to-government cooperation.

“The more I see, the more I realize we have great potentials in this sector. We have to begin this. We have not given attention to this sector for a long time,” the President said, adding that Indonesia has many heroic stories, 148 keratons, and many others.

“What matters is cooperation and we have to start it. We hope that the end product is the people who love our traditions and our identities,” the President concluded.

Also joining the President during the visit were Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of Trade Thomas Lembong, Chief of the Creative Economy Agency Triawan Munaf, and Presidential Chief of Staff Teten Masduki.
