President Jokowi Meets CEOs of Major Japanese Companies

President Jokowi, accompanied by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, who is also the President of the Japan Indonesia Association (Japinda), delivers a press statement after a courtesy call on Wednesday (27/7), at the Merdeka Palace

A number of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) of major Japanese companies members of the Japan Indonesia Association (Japinda), led by former Japanese Prime Minister Yasuo Fukuda, paid a courtesy call on President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo on Wednesday (27/7), at the Merdeka Palace.

“The courtesy call indicates strong trust from the Japanese counterpart; Fukuda and his entourage reiterated that political and economic stabilities in Indonesia are much better compared to other countries. This is an evidence that we are confidence to receive the call from Fukuda and CEOs of major Japanese companies in Indonesia,” President Jokowi told the reporters.

On that occasion, Fukuda said that his side discussed economic issues as well as mantained ties of friendship (silaturahmi) with President Jokowi.

“Being received in the Palace shows the importance of Indonesia–Japan relations. We are glad to be received by the President,” Fukuda added.

Fukuda further said that in the meeting, President Jokowi said that political stability in Indonesia has been realized and the economy has improved. “I am glad and proud to hear it. We also can feel the hopes toward Japan,” Fukuda said.

The meeting also discussed the importance of economic stability and people prosperity in Indonesia, Fukuda stated.

“We believe President Jokowi runs a good governance and ensures economic stability and prosperity for the people. We want to cooperate. The Japanese industry also wants to cooperate to support the President. This is such a precious opportunity for us,” Fukuda added.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi, Thomas Lembong, and former Minister of Trade Rahmat Gobel also attended the meeting. (UN/ES) (RAS/MMB/YM/Naster)
