Even though it has been ratified in a Plenary Meeting of the House of Representatives in 12 February 2017, until now President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has not yet signed the Revision of Law Number 17 of 2014 on the People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), the Regional House of Representatives (DPRD), and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD), commonly known as the MD3 Law.

In this regard, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung asked all parties to wait for 30 days for its ratification. “After 30 days we will see,” Pramono said to the reporters after a Plenary Cabinet Meeting at the State Palace, in Jakarta, on Monday (5/3) afternoon.

As we are all aware, if within 30 days the President does not sign the law, in accordance with the provision, the Revision of MD3 Law will be then in effect.

Regarding the possibility of Government Regulation in Lieu of Law on MD3 issued by the Government, the Cabinet Secretary asked the reporters to wait for 30 days too. “Just wait for 30 days. In 30 days, we will see,” Promono firmly said.

“What important is,” Pramono added, “The spirit of the Revision of MD3 Law is the same spirit in the beginning, so that any party win the General Election later in 2019 will be a chairman of an institution, whether it is DPR, DPD, or MPR.”

Secondly, the Cabinet Secretary further said, so that the representation of the 2014 general election which is reflected in the MD3 also defines in the leadership. Because law already regulates the 2019 general election for the counting, it was the result of the 2014 general election. He added that it is indeed congruent with what should be in the MD3 Law.

“It is the spirit. If then it is an additional spirit, we wait for 30 days,” Pramono said. (FID/JAY/ES) (EPI/YM/Naster)
