President Prabowo Subianto has formed a Task Force for the Acceleration of Post-Disaster Rehabilitation and Reconstruction in three affected provinces: Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra.

“Mr. President appointed Minister of Home Affairs General Tito Karnavian as the Head of the Task Force, accompanied by Mr. Richard Tampubolon named as the Deputy Head. He also appointed a steering committee chaired by the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Cultural Affairs,” Minister of State Secretary, Prasetyo Hadi said after the Early Year Briefing.

According to Prasetyo Hadi, the decision to appoint the Minister of Home Affairs as Head of the Task Force was based on the scale of the affected areas, which span three provinces. “The President has considered the capacity of General Tito Karnavian as Minister of Home Affairs and believes that under his coordination, the [rehabilitation and reconstruction] can be carried out more effectively,” he explained.

Regarding the objective, Minister Prasetyo emphasized that the Task Force will move swiftly in accordance with the predetermined stages. He noted that the government’s top priority is the construction of adequate housing for affected residents.

“The target [timeframe] is as soon as possible. The [rehabilitation and reconstruction] stages are already defined, and the priority, of course, is to provide as many houses as possible for our brothers and sisters who are currently staying in evacuation centers,” he said.

Furthermore, Minister Prasetyo affirmed that several parties, including ministries or agencies, the National Police, and Danantara, are actively involved in recovery efforts. According to him, Ministry of Public Works also has prepared its response plans based on damage assessment data.

“For areas with minor to moderate damage, compensation will be disbursed as quickly as possible so that affected residents can promptly repair their homes and return from evacuation centers,” said Minister Prasetyo. (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat) (NST/LW)
