Ahead of Eid al-Fitr, President Jokowi Inspects Stock and Prices of Basic Commodities at Merangin People’s Market
Starting his working visit to Jambi Province, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo inspected firsthand the availability and prices of a number of basic commodities at the Merangin People’s Market, Merangin Regency, Wednesday (04/03). He found that the prices of a number of basic commodities in the market are relatively stable and good.
“I see the prices here are good and stable. I’ve seen earlier that [one kilogram of] onions are sold at Rp35 thousand, garlic Rp40 thousand, so the prices here are the same as those in other provinces,” said the President in his statement to media crew after the inspection.
President Jokowi also appreciated the price stability in this market, especially because the price stability can still be maintained a week before Eid al-Fitr (an Islamic holiday).
“I think that price ranges like these ones are very good because it’s already a week before Eid al-Fitri,” said President Jokowi.
During the visit, President Jokowi also distributed some assistance to traders at the Merangin People’s Market. One of them is Wiranto, a chili and onion trader who will use the assistance to prepare for the holiday.
“For the Eid al-Fitr,” said Wiranto.
Additionally, Yambun also expressed his gratitude for the assistance distributed to the traders. He could hardly believe that he ever had a chance to meet President Jokowi.
“I’ve received the assistance and the basic commodities which I can use to raise capital. I’m also happy to ever have a chance in my life to meet President Jokowi,” said Yambun. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information (BPMI) of Presidential Secretariat/AIT) (TM/MUR)
