After inspecting the implementation of the cash labor-intensive program on small-scale irrigation and paddy field production road in Kukuh Village, in Marga Subdistrict, Tabanan Regency, Bali, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Friday (22/2) visited Margarana National Monument Park to distribute 15,000 land certificates to local residents in Tabanan Regency, Bali Province.

It is reported that out of 1,838,503 million parcels of land in Bali, only 1,343,141 of which have been certified in total, while the remaining 495,362 million parcels of land are to be certified in the next two years. Therefore, President Jokowi has set a target for Bali Province to be the first province where all landowners will hold land certificates by 2019.

“Next year (2019) Bali Province will be the first province where  all landowners will hold land certificates,” the President added.

President Jokowi also said that land ownership rights must be proven by a certificate as it is mandated by Law Number 5 of 1960 on Basic Agrarian Principles. The certificate, the President added, is a written proof which is legally-recognized so it provides security to the owner.

“No one else can claim the land because the landowner’s name and land area are stated in the certificate,” the President fimly said.

President Jokowi went on to say that the Government has only distributed 51 million out of the targeted 126 million land certificates to the people across Indonesia because the Government only issued 500,000 land certificates each year. For that reason, the Government is accelerating the process of land certification by setting a target of issuing 5 million certificates in 2017.

“This year’s target is (to distribute) 7 million certificates and 9 million the next year,” the President added.

On that occasion, President Jokowi also called on the certificate owners to keep their certificates in a proper and safe place and wanted them to think wisely before using it as collateral for bank loan. “Be careful when you apply for a bank loan. If you get the loan, use it to get capital to start a business and investment. Do not use it to buy a car or a motorcycle before your saving is enough,” the President said.

Also joining the President Jokowi in the event were Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of National Land Agency (BPN) Sofyan Djalil, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono, and Governor of Bali I Made Mangku Pastika. (BPMI Setpres/ES) (RAS/MUR/EP/Naster)
