The Government ensures that all parcels of land in Jakarta will be certified in 2019, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) has promised me (that the target will be achieved). Insha Allah (God Willing) the land certification will be completed,” the President said during the distribution of 3,000 land certificates at Cendrawasih Multipurpose Building, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, Wednesday (9/1).

President Jokowi added that in 2015, only 46 million out of 126 million land certificates had been handed over to the public and there are still 80 million certificates that must be handed over to the public throughout the country.

The President went on to say that previously the BPN office only issued 500,000 certificates a year. This means that one must wait for 160 years for their certificate to be issued, he said.

According to the President, it turned out that the problem in land certification is lack of land surveyor. He said that since 2015 the Government has hired as many land surveyors as possible so that it can distribute 5 million land certificates in 2015 and 9.3 million land certificates in 2019, exceeding the 7 million target.

President Jokowi further said that all personnel in the BPN work harder to meet the land certification target.

Also present during the event were, among others, Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Sofyan Jalil, Governor of Special Capital Region of Jakarta (DKI Jakarta) Anies Baswedan, and Mayor of West Jakarta Rustam Effendi. (DID/DNS/ES)
