All Related Parties Must Work Hard to Prevent Forest and Land Fires

When delivering his directives at the 2018 National Coordination Meeting of Forest and Land Fires at the State Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday (6/2) morning, President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo also mentioned the 2018 Asian Games to be held in Jakarta and Palembang next August. “Do not let the moment be destroyed by haze, forest and land fires that can disrupt our image as well as our flights,” the President firmly said. Therefore, the President reminded all related parties to work hard so that the event can run smoothly.

Early detection is important to prevent forest and land fires. Do not wait until they are growing worse. “It is important to check the readiness of human resources and equipments, andto activate the task force. Their presence is also important,” the President said.<>

President Jokowi asked related governors to ensure that land managements do their tasks properly and to involve the community in applying preventive measures. In addition, the culprits of forest and land fires must be given stern punishment.

The President also reminded that Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency has predicted that dry season in West Kalimantan will start earlier, in April. It must be taken into account.

The Opening of the National Coordination Meeting was attended by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, Coordinating Minister for the Economy Darmin Nasution, Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, Minister of Law and Human Rights Yasonna H.Laoly and Minister of Health Nila F.
