ASCC Commits to Support ASEAN as Epicentrum of Growth
The 30th ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Session on Tuesday (08/29) has endorsed five documents that will be discussed and adopted at the 43rd ASEAN Summit, September 5-7, 2023 in Jakarta.
The session was chaired by Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture (Menko PMK) of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy and attended by Ministers of Social and Cultural Affairs of ASEAN member states, Timor Leste as observer, and the ASEAN Secretary-General.
Five documents that will be addressed at the 43rd ASEAN Summit are related to disability-inclusive development, climate change, gender equality and family development, early childhood education, and sustainable resilience.
Furthermore, there are 21 documents regarding various socio-cultural issues to be notated during the 43rd ASEAN Summit. All these documents contributed to the theme of the Indonesia’s Chairmanship of ASEAN 2023, “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth.” The session also highlighted a priority to discuss the ASEAN Vision 2045 and the related documents.
“We have successfully achieved great progress in further advancing ASEAN that is inclusive, sustainable, and people-centered. This is reflected through various initiatives implemented this year and the outcome documents submitted for adoption and notation during the 43rd ASEAN Summit,” Muhadjir said.
For the record, on March 25-26, 2024, the 31st ASCC Session will be held in Luang Prabang, Laos as the country will carry over the ASCC Chairpersonship and ASEAN Chairmanship next year. (KTT ASEAN Communication & Media Team/UN) (SI/FI)
