ASEAN Summit: Indonesia, Malaysia Discuss Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers

President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo Tuesday (05/09) underscored the importance of ensuring optimum protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia, during a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, at Meruorah Hotel, Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara province.

“The President once again reiterated the importance to optimize one channel system and provide protection for Indonesian Migrant Workers in Malaysia,” Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi said in a press statement after accompanying President Jokowi in the bilateral meeting.

Moreover, Retno also confirmed that both leaders also discussed efforts to accelerate settlement of border disputes between Indonesia and Malaysia.

“President Jokowi asserted the importance of resolution of land and maritime border disputes,” she said.

For the record, the bilateral meeting between Indonesia and Malaysia was held on the sidelines of the 42nd ASEAN Summit.  (BPMI of Presidential Secretariat/FID/UN) (RAS/MMB)
