Asian Games Infrastructure Ready to be Inaugurated Early August

Entire infrastructure for the 18th Asian Games both venues and non-venues in Jakarta and Palembang will be completed entirely on 31 July and ready to be inaugurated in early August.

Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono said he would report the progress to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

“In the Gelora Bung Karno sports complex, everything is completed including the squash venue and I have even tried. The Cofftea house and the A & B parking lot are also completed,” Basuki said when inspecting the progress of construction work at Gelora Bung Karno Sports Complex and the pavement at Jalan Sudirman, Jakarta, Sunday (22/7).

Overall,the infrastructure for the 18th Asian Games has been completed 99 percent. Currently, cauldron construction and arrangement of pavements at Jalan Sudirman is still underway and targeted to be completed in 25 July.

“On 31 July, the whole infrastructure for Asian Games including the pavements will be completed. Then, I will report to the President to be fully inaugurated, including Bung Karno statue, jetski venue and screen in Ancol in early August 2018,” Basuki said who is also Chief Executive Officer of Facilities and Infrastructure of the 18th Asian Games.

Some infrastructure Basuki inspected include cauldron, cofftea house, parking building, squash venue and pavement arrangement at Jalan Sudirman.

In the cofftea house, Basuki checked the quality of the building and surrounding landscape. In parking A Building, Basuki requested to provide a waiting room for drivers. The four-storey parking building has a total capacity of 1,000 vehicles. The building is also equipped with a solar panel with a total capacity of 1 megawatt.

In the squash venue, Basuki checked the four cubes that will be the arena of the match. He also tried the venue by playing squash with Director General of Cipta Karya Danis H. Sumadilaga.

For the record, the construction and renovation of venues and supporting buildings in the GBK Sports Complex undertaken by the Ministry of PUPR have been started since 2016 with a total budget of Rp3.7 trillion.
