President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of strengthening concrete cooperation to ensure a constructive competition in the region. The Head of State conveyed this statement during his intervention at the 28th ASEAN Plus Three (APT) Summit at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), Malaysia, on Monday (10/27).
The Head of State emphasized that this new chapter of regional cooperation is taking place amid complex global challenges, ranging from climate change, disruption in international trade, to rising geopolitical tensions. According to him, these challenges have a direct impact on the lives of people in the region.
“For Indonesia, these challenges are not abstract risks. They put real pressure on our farmers, our young generation, and the important role we play in the global supply chain,” emphasized President Prabowo.
In addition, the Head of State highlighted that the latest ASEAN Plus Three Regional Economic Outlook report shows the region’s economic resilience, but also warns that stability cannot be considered as something certain. Therefore, President Prabowo emphasized the importance of strengthening regional integration, diversifying trade, and enhancing financial safety nets as the core of the APT agenda.
“Indonesia recognizes the contribution of trilateral cooperation between China, Japan, and Republic of Korea to the entire region. To sustain growth and protect ourselves from external disturbance, deepening this trilateral cooperation through regular summits and ministerial meetings will be crucial,” said President Prabowo.
In the context of concrete cooperation, President Prabowo called for enhancement of ASEAN Plus Three Emergency Rice Reserve (APTERR) to ensure food supply stability and strengthen inter-country emergency response through a better information exchange.
In addition, President Prabowo also emphasized the importance of the full implementation of the APT Cooperation Plan (2023-2027) as well as the strengthening of Chiang Mai Initiative Multilateralisation as concrete steps to deepen regional economic and financial cooperation. The President further stated that Indonesia fully supports the adoption of the ASEAN Plus Three Leaders’ Statement on Strengthening Regional Economic and Financial Cooperation.
“Let these aspirations preserve our relevance and forward-looking vision in building a better future for the region,” said President Prabowo.
Concluding his intervention, President Prabowo shared his views on the importance of maintaining a spirit of healthy competition amid increasingly intense global dynamics. “I will conclude by reaffirming a fundamental truth that competition is something inevitable, it is the engine of progress. However, for it to truly drive progress, competition must be constructive,” President Prabowo concluded. (Bureau of Press, Media, and Information of the Presidential Secretariat) (TCUD/TM)
