Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese arrived in Jakarta on Wednesday evening, marking the start of a three-day official visit to Indonesia from May 14 to 16.

Albanese landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base at 6:30 p.m. Western Indonesia Time, where he was welcomed by a guard of honor and greeted by several Indonesian officials, including Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, Foreign Minister Sugiono, Indonesian Ambassador to Australia Siswo Pramono, and Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Roderick Bruce Brazier.

Following the brief welcome ceremony, the prime minister and his delegation proceeded to their hotel ahead of Thursday’s official agenda.

Albanese is scheduled to meet with President Prabowo Subianto at the State Palace on Thursday, beginning with a ceremonial welcome. The two leaders will then hold a tête-à-tête followed by a bilateral meeting with their respective delegations.

“After the bilateral talks, both leaders are expected to deliver a joint press statement outlining key points of discussion,” said Presidential Secretariat’s Deputy for Protocol, Press, and Media Yusuf Permana in a written statement.

The visit underscores the strategic importance of Indonesia-Australia ties in the Indo-Pacific region and is expected to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. (BPMI SETPRES) (AP/LW)
