Back to Cianjur, President Jokowi Ensures Quake Victims Evacuation Runs Well
President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo once again inspected the location where the recent earthquake happened in Cianjur regency, West Java province, on Monday (11/21).
According to the President, there were 39 victims that had not been found yet in Cugenang subdistrict, so the Head of State came back to ensure the victims evacuation runs well.
“We know that there are 39 people that have not been found yet in a certain spot, 39 have not been found yet. Therefore, evacuation process is our priority at the moment, we concentrate on it, and this afternoon we will concentrate on this spot to evacuate,” President Jokowi added after inspecting the quake-impacted location at Mangunkerta, Cugenang subdistrict, Cianjur regency, on Thursday (11/24) morning.
In addition, President Jokowi also ensured that the distribution of supplies for the quake victims in Cianjur regency can be well-organized to fulfill their needs.
“I also want to ensure that supplies can be distributed well, such as food, medicines, and so on, including tents and water which are in shortage because they need to be distributed to many locations and it takes time. I want to ensure that the supplies can be distributed immediately,” the President explained.
The Head of State added that a number of hindrances are still found at the location, so victims evacuation was still running.
“It is due to the steep land, rain, and the possibility of another following earthquake, unstable land, so we need to be cautious. However, Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) had ordered his personnel who are experienced in doing cut and fill process. I think it can be carried out immediately,”
Also accompanying President Jokowi during the inspection were Coordinating Minister for Human Resources Development and Cultural Affairs Muhadjir Effendy, Minister of Social Affairs Tri Rismaharini, Minister of Women Empowerment and Child Protection I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati, PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono, Head of the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency Dwikorita Karnawati, Head of the National Disaster Management Agency Suharyanto, Vice Governor of West Java Uu Ruzhanul Ulum, and Cianjur Regent Herman Suherman.
