Bangga Buatan Indonesia National Movement Succeeds to Boost National Economy

As of February 2022, the Bangga Buatan Indonesia (BBI/Proud of Indonesian Products) national movement has boosted business and job opportunities since it was launched on May 14, 2020, according to Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno.

“As many as 5.5 million additional artisan MSMEs were onboarded on marketplaces with a total of 17.2 million units in 2021. This figure makes up 57 percent of the target of 30 million MSMEs onboarded in 2023. Therefore, we are optimistic that we will achieve the target on time,” Sandiaga reported to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo at the Directives of the President on Bangga Buatan Indonesia Affirmation Action to Ministers and Regional Heads at Grand Hyatt Nusa Dua in the resort island of Bali, Friday (03/25).

Sandiaga underscored that the achievement of BBI national movement was reached due to joint collaborations of various parties, including ministries/institutions, government regulations, SOEs, marketplace platforms, and top brands.

According to Sandiaga, the BBI national movement team consists of 29 ministries/institutions and 12 of which have been appointed as campaign managers that are expected to coordinate the movement intensively in various regions.

“A little flashback,  the Bangga Buatan Indonesia stimulation program distributing the national economic recovery fund between October and December 2021, has resulted in more than 150,000 transactions to sell BBI products with a total value of Rp36 billion,” he said.

Sandiaga underscored that in addition to enhancing economic stimuli, the BBI movement will foster MSMEs for 3 months to increase sales, adding that technological utilization and digitalization are also the next main targets of the BBI program.

“Learning from the 2020-2021 BBI national movement, besides the general public, we are certain that the Government’s procurement of goods and services can contribute to increase the number of domestic product purchases,” he said.

Sandiaga also pointed out that the domestic product purchase and use affirmation action taken by ministries/institutions, regional governments, and SOEs can increase domestic product transaction by Rp400 trillion this year.

“As of yesterday, thank God, God willing, the closing of Business Matchinghas been achieved and recorded more than Rp214.1 trillion. And God willing, it will continue to rise, Bapak President, if we  unite to cooperate,” he said.

Sandiaga estimated that domestic product purchase and use carried out using e-catalogue and online stores have the potential to boost the economic growth by 1.71 percent.

“Let us also inform you Bapak President that Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy/Tourism and Creative Economy Agency in domestic product purchase and utilization affirmation action to bolster Bangga Buatan Indonesia has and will continue to push and ensure that actors of creative economy, creative MSMEs join online stores and LKPP’s e-catalogue. LKPP’s e-catalogue as the Government’s only digital platform,” he said.

Closing his report, Sandiaga urged all elements of the nation to support the BBI national movement for the country’s advancement.

“Finally, on behalf of Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy and [as] Head of the Bangga Buatan Indonesia National Movement Daily Management, I urge everyone to continue motivate, collaborate, and synergize for a better Indonesia that heads toward a new economic era. Let us continue to give support, buy [from] local creatives, and [support] Bangga Buatan Indonesia National Movement,” he remarked.
