The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned the public of potential extreme weather during March-April.

“Considering potential of extreme weather such as whirlwinds, hailstorms, heavy rainfall with lightning/thunders and strong wind is predicted to hit the country until March-April, the BMKG issued a warning to the public to beware of the potential extreme weather,” BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto said in a written statement, Tuesday (01/22).

The Agency also warned the public of the impacts that extreme weather can bring including floods, landslides, flashfloods, puddles, slippery roads, fallen trees, and the like.

Guswanto added that during the past week hail has hit several regions, such as Surabaya, Lampung, and Bekasi.

“That phenomenon is coupled with heavy rainfall with lightning/thunders in a short time. Hailstorm is one of extreme weather’s phenomena when frozen rain falls in showers from clouds in certain area for a couple of minutes,” he explained.
