President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo on Thursday (19/12) has tested Trans-Kalimantan Border Road located in Krayan District, Nunukan Regency, North Kalimantan Province.

By using his motorcycle from Yuvai Semaring Airport, President Jokowi took a trip for about 11 kilometers. “It will feel different if you use a car,” President Jokowi said.

According to the President, the construction of the road has been good and entering the completion phase. For the record, the border road that has been completed has reached 966 kilometers.

“This is the borderline between Indonesia and Malaysia,” he said, adding that the road construction will give mobility of goods and people that will boost the economy in the area.

“(Even though) our focus is on the human capital development, we will continue to develop infrastructure since there are too many that left unfinished, especially for roads in border areas,” President Jokowi said.

After building roads as basic infrastructure, the President continued, it will be easy to build other infrastructures such as schools or community health centers (puskesmas) and the people will be easier to access other places.

“The sick people from the easternmost of Nduga usually need four days to go to the health center or to the hospital, “said President Jokowi. (BPMI Setpres/ES)
