BPKP Plays Crucial Role in Monitoring Development Continuity, President Jokowi Says

The Development Finance Comptroller (BPKP) plays a crucial role in monitoring development continuity for the wellbeing of the Indonesian people, according to President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

The President made the statement at the inauguration of the Opening of the 2024 National Coordination Meeting on Government Internal Supervision, at the State Palace on Wednesday (05/22).

President Jokowi underscored that BPKP contributes to straightforward development and ensures that objectives are achieved swiftly and accurately, adding that the performance goals of BPKP and internal supervisors include providing instructions and guidance to avoid deviation in addition to issuing prohibitions and regulations that delay process.

According to him, BPKP should provide instructions and guidance and point out irregularities at the beginning. Do not focus on finding out how many irregularities but on finding out the extent of benefits gained by the people from government programs, he added.

The President also stressed that future challenges will be tougher as the Government programs and expenditures continue to grow bigger and the people’s demands increase.

In an era where international competition is tougher, speed and accuracy become essential, he said.

“Thus, BPKP must innovate, especially in leveraging technology. Many tools are available now, such as the early detection and exclusion system platform for warning and blacklisting parties involved in a fraud or other deviations,” he said. (FID/DNS) (DH/RAS/MUR)
