BPS: As of September, 10.46 Million Foreign Tourists Arrive in Indonesia

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reports that as of the end of September this year, the number of foreign tourists visiting Indonesia reaches 10.46 million people, rising by 25.05 percent compared to that in the same period last year at 8.36 million people.

“9.04 million foreign tourists arrive in Indonesia through 19 major gates and 1.42 million tourists arrive in the country through other gates,” said BPS Chairman Suhariyanto in a press conference in Jakarta on Wednesday (1/11).

In September alone, Suhariyanto said that Indonesia sees 1.21 million foreign tourists arriving in the country, higher than foreign tourist arrival in September last year at 1.01 million tourists. In the meantime, 109.45 thousand foreign tourists arrive in Indonesia through border posts, rising 403.15 percent compared to that in September 2016, which saw 21.75 thousand tourists arriving in Indonesia. Nevertheless, compared to that in August, the number of foreign tourist arrival through border posts in September drops by 31.32 percent.

In the meantime, Suhariyanto added that BPS also reports an increase in hotel occupancy rate in starred hotels in Indonesia in September 2017 that reaches an average 58.42 percent, rising by 4.26 points compared to hotel occupancy rate in September last year at 54.16 percent. Meanwhile, compared to hotel occupancy rate in August this year at 58.00 percent, hotel occupancy rate in September rises by 0.42 percent.

“Central Sulawesi province reports the highest hotel occupancy rate at 74.11 percent, followed by Bali province (72.64 percent), the Special Capital District of Jakarta (68.13 percent), while the lowest hotel occupancy rate is reported in West Sulawesi province at 30.61 percent,” Suhariyanto said.

Suhariyanto further said that the average visit duration of foreign tourists and domestic tourists in the country’s starred hotels reaches 1.97 days in September this year, rising by 0.07 points compared to that in September last year.

“In general, the average visit duration of foreign tourists in September this year is higher than that of domestic tourists, that is 3.05 days and 1.78 days respectively,”Suhariyanto said. (Humas BPS/ES)(EP/YM/Naster)
